Under the No Child Left Behind law, all students must reach proficiency on state exams by 2013-14. But in these highest- and lowest-performing states on the National Assessment of Educational Progress, the 2003 results on the national exam often bear little relationship to state test results for the same year.
Note: For each subject and grade, states with the highest and lowest percentages of students scoring at or above 鈥減roficient鈥� on NAEP, with corresponding state achievement data, were used for comparison. Full state-by-state numbers are available in the Student Achivement table.
