Parents Invited to Join White House/PTA Briefing Online

Parents can join the conversation on Twitter during a Friday, August 10 White House meeting with Parent Teacher Association (PTA) leaders about challenges facing our nation鈥檚 schools and communities. To participate, use the hashtag #WHPTA.

Visiting the White House for the daylong briefing will be representing 41 states. They will meet with top Administration officials to discuss education.

Director of the Domestic Policy Council Cecilia Munoz will participate in a live 鈥淥pen for Questions鈥 event moderated by National PTA President Betsy Landers. The PTA is soliciting questions from their members about child advocacy and education through and also on Twitter.

Among the topics to be tackled throughout the day are:


  • The potential impact of sequestration on public education;
  • The implementation of the Elementary and Secondary Act (ESEA) Flexibility;
  • Family engagement in education;
  • School nutrition; and,
  • Student health and safety.

According to a release from the National PTA, top White House and Department of Education officials will engage in open dialogue with PTA volunteers from the local, state, and national levels in an effort to glean valuable insights from the nation鈥檚 parents and families.

During the day鈥檚 events, 12 PTA members will be honored as for their dedication to improving educational equity and opportunity for all children through involvement in PTA.

  • PTA leaders briefing at 9:30 a.m. EDT,
  • 鈥淥pen for Questions鈥 online Q&A at noon EDT and
  • The Champions of Change event at 2 p.m. EDT.
