Two Studies Criticize Abstinence Education

Federally financed abstinence-only sex education has done little to stem sexual activity among teenagers, conclude two reports released last week.

The reports, from Advocates for Youth, a Washington-based organization that promotes comprehensive sex education, include a review of 10 state evaluations of abstinence-only programs as well as an independent analysis of recent data on high school students’ sexual risk behaviors since the federal abstinence initiative began.
