The from the federal What Works Clearinghouse gives the federal Job Corps education and training program a 鈥減otentially positive鈥� rating for its effectiveness at getting participating students to earn a high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
Begun in 1964 as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson鈥檚 War on Poverty, the Job Corps provides job placement and training to economically disadvantaged 16- to 24-year-olds, many of whom live in Job Corps centers while they鈥檙e enrolled.
Despite the program鈥檚 effect on completion, clearinghouse analysts concluded that it has 鈥渘o discernible effects鈥� on promoting students鈥� progress through the grades.
